Books

November 22nd, 2023 by David

I don’t blog or vlog about books often because I assume people have their preferences and have a good diet of non fiction, but I am constantly dissappointed.

So I should outline some books and authors everyone would be wise to know. To me this isn’t as fun as finding new ways to apply NFT, so… But, Bill Bryson is a must visit. His range is fantastic. His discussion of astronomy and science are abetted by a fairly interesting historical collection. Steven Pinker is a treasure, for fans of last century there is A Blank Slate, but i just got The Evolution of Violence, an expensive collection he wrote the intro to. Ask me and we can create a book chain for it because it is 110 bucks. Richard Dawkins makes Charles Darwin and general science content engaging and the rest of the New Atheists are ok. I really like Watson’s Secret of Life, which is epic in its own regards. Nigger by Dick Gregory is more sensitive than Nigger by Randal Kennedy but once you’ve read a little Cornel West you will want both read. There are some books that have little science value, like a biography of Kafka, but it isn’t a total waste. Ideally children should have read Calvin and Hobbes and Ender’s Game. Obviously I like others, but this is painful because I let them go after a first read, most of the time; Susan Blackmore’s The Meme Machine is needed for meditation and Charles Seife’s Zero is a good intro to the best source on math which is wikipedia and wolfram. Look these are just books I assume everyone has read. It is a humane approach to other people’s minds… To understand why humane and niggere treatment is required Irvine Welsh’s Filth is good and 1984 has not aged poorly;

    Great! Thank you for the list. I enjoyed Kafka’s the Metamorphosis in high school English; one of the few enjoyable literature experiences of that class.
