The Book of Numbers

September 16th, 2021 by David

I want to write a book that will serve as authoritative for the exact phrase “The Book of Numbers”. This puts me in the uncomfortable position of discussing ancient Israelite war crimes, talking donkeys, spies, rebellions and more Biblical text while explaining Hunimal, my numbering system for the internet age. It will also need to discuss all human ways of recording and preserving numbers. I’ve never written a good book before and this is daunting. I’d like it to serve as a deep history as well and hopefully diverse systems of numbers from Mayan to Cantonese should be explored. I’m afraid of trying to be authoritative, when I try to fill that cultural space I encounter great opposition. This book might need its own webpage, but I thought I could use the comment section here to begin gathering some of the text that needs outed. I will be posting blogs for every number from Zo(00) to Hun (01 00) as I hope to get a chapter from each one. It’ll be a good way to organize the book and allow me a trivial arena of truth in which I can find my lingual bearings. I’ll be able to discuss how numbers make me feel and what they could teach going forward. Each generation learns numbers afresh so in order for this book to be relevant it will have to have a cartoon version that serves as a children’s book. Adam Lore comes to mind as a possible illustrator, but that’s way ahead of ourselves I’m getting. I need to write the adult version first (but we must begin to begin at zo instead of one). So, zothe things zothe, I’ll end the meta discussion and begin the 00th chapter!

I’d like to get Adam Lore’s opinion and perhaps Anton’s so I can feel out the possibility of making a complementary website and children’s book. But I need to get some pages written before I get distracted! So, off to Zo!
