Most people doing most things start here. They start at one. One has won. It has come in first place. It is a proud number, some call it “unity” and it certainly appears to have won the day. Before you declare one a winner though and begin at this location you need to think ahead. This chapter is why 1 needs to become 01.

Starting at one seems to make sense, it is the beginning of substance. There is no whole positive integer referring to existing substance below it. It became first by cheating though. First means number one, primary focuses on one. Winning seeks to accredit he who one.with victory. I want to challenge this in two ways. Let’s start at the zero in the new one’s ten’s place. That i to say one gives you a paucity of information without an implied zero in the ten’s place. One didn’t actually win. We had a recall vote without participants, either ten participants or one of them and Zo was the victor. One’s primacy is suspect given the typical content of it extending no further than nine. One will win only in the ammounting of things, never the count.
